Week 2: Worlds and Archetypes
They see the world through white and black, light and shadow, good and evil. They aren't really blind so much as they're clumsy. My curiosity drives me to move closer to them but they're caretaker keeps the crowd at bay. Flash photography is prohibited but normal pictures are approved by these gentle yet daunting beings. Finally my turn I am allowed near them, not too close but just enough to frame a well composed photograph. The three massive floating orbs stare right through me blinking in unison, pupils dilating as I walk to the next exhibit.
The next room is brighter than the last and I can clearly see the manager of the stage nearby. I wait again watching as those ahead of me are guided into a large cylindrical wire cage running on an automated track. In monotone the woman controlling the ride guides them on how to place the air masks on their face correctly, safety, regulations, and the liability contract signed when you buy tickets to this theme park. At the press of the button they trudge forward, I am hopeful to see them again outside. Minutes later the cage arrives back empty the woman announces that the next group can get inside ushering us all in and giving us the same speech. Securing the door shut and pressing the button the ride begins, tracks clanging as we slowly move towards our predetermined destination. The cage arrives at metal door which opens allowing cold mist to stream out the people around me visibly shiver and our masks fog up from the change in temperature.
As the fog from the masks clear up we all start oh-ing and aw-ing at the contents of the room. Several different species of unknown specimens from what can only be referred to as "the beyond" reside inside. Elongated sagging noses and bulbous layers of thick leather like skin cover a group of specimens hiding behind the supporting pillars of the ride. Around them lied several carcasses of once living animals, they stench of these beings are strong enough to putrefy anything that breathes in the fumes, hence the reason for masks. Pp on the ceiling was another gathering of creatures which were covered in a coat of feathers with hair like texture. Despite having feathers they're flightless but stay up through sheer willpower and a lack of following the laws of gravity. When they saw the cage approaching they dropped down at a slow rate, the cold temperature hindering they're control and speed. The bars of the cage were only so big to fit a finger through but not much else. These creatures are known from having hummingbird like beaks but the park ensures safety by removing clipping them short.
The ride ends when they group arrives at another metal door, fitted to the exact size of the cage so no monsters escape. We arrive at the exit platform where another monotone woman releases us from the confines of the cage. The group slowly makes its way out through winding hallways to the outside world again. I stopped though spending just enough time to buy myself a plush creature and horrendously tacky tshirt before I rejoin the human world.
